The sperm 
donor journey

On your first visit, you will be given information to read and forms to complete. You will also be counselled on the process of sperm donation. The documents offered include general information about the sperm donation program, consent forms, and a questionnaire.

A donor will then be required to produce a semen sample for a semen analysis test. Depending on the semen analysis results, the donor may be required to do blood tests for STD screening. Donors do not have to pay for any tests. The clinic covers all screening costs.

Potential donors will then leave & await a response. A call/email will be made to provide feedback on blood tests & semen analysis results. If you have passed the initial screening process, you will be given further instructions.

A potential donor will then visit us for a second appointment after 2 weeks for a second semen analysis. 

Two/Three semen analysis tests may be required to conduct an in-depth comparative analysis.

A potential donor is advised to abstain from any sexual activity (incl. masturbation). An Abstinence period of 2-3 days before a semen analysis test is recommended.

The sperm donation application process will be considered unsuccessful if potential donors do not meet the requirements of the screening process.

Once the potential donor passes the screening process and has met the criteria, the donor will be required to sign consent forms and will receive counselling again. A CEDA representative will schedule your first semen deposit for a donation towards the CEDA sperm bank. 

All selected sperm donors are required to return to repeat blood tests after three months.

Sperm donors receive a compensation fee for their time, travel and other expenses incurred during the donation process. The compensation fee is advised on the first visit.
